About the Author

Rajendra P. Mamgain is a development economist having three decades of research experience. He has a doctoral degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and he specialises in the areas of labour, employment, migration, skill development, human poverty, inclusive development and impact evaluation of government programmes. He has expertise in undertaking large field-based research in his areas of interest. With 25 research studies to his credit, he has authored/co-authored 9 books and more than 65 research papers in various national and internationals journals of repute.
At present, he is Professor at Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow, India. He is an Adjunct Professor in Doon University, and a Visiting Professor to Indian Institute of Dalit Studies (IIDS). Earlier, he was the director and professor of economics with IIDS, New Delhi. He has also been a senior academic consultant at the Indian Council of Social Science Research for a brief period. He has worked as a senior fellow in the Institute for Human Development and faculty at the Institute of Applied Manpower Research, New Delhi.
He is the Editor of Journal of Social Inclusion Studies and Associate Editor, Indian Economic Journal, both being published by SAGE. As the Managing Editor of the Indian Journal of Labour Economics for 25 years, he has been instrumental in transforming the journal into a quality product with worldwide dissemination. He has been a consultant to various national and international organisations. He has been a member of various policy advisory bodies of reputed institutions in India and foreign countries.
His recent work on youth and the challenge of decent employment has been widely acclaimed by academia. He is actively engaged in research and policy advocacy, and has delivered more than 35 special lectures and keynote addresses in various seminars and workshops. He has also organised over 25 national and international seminars/ workshops/conferences. He has travelled widely in India and abroad related to his research interests.
